Why applesauce? I'm trying to make this cake for a microwave only mold and some recipes suggest applesauce.

what is the reasoning behind this? what will applesauce and apple pie filling do in the baking process? will it affect the taste? Why applesauce? I'm trying to make this cake for a microwave only mold and some recipes suggest applesauce.
It's a way to keep your cake moist instead of using oil. It makes it ';healthier'; andl owers the fat content. I've done it for years (although never in a microwave - I don't own one!). You can use a number of differnt fruits and even some veggies for the same thing. I have a terrific chocolate cake recipe that calls for a massive amount of shredded zucchini! Mmmmm, delicious!

Apples sauce and apple pie filling are NOT the same! Don't sub one for the other! Why applesauce? I'm trying to make this cake for a microwave only mold and some recipes suggest applesauce.
It also acts as a colloid or suspending agent to give the cake an even texture. A lot vegetarians use applesauce in replace of eggs
hey-the idea is to cut the fat.you use applesauce instead of oil.if the recipe calls for 1/4 cup oil use 1/4 cup applesauce instead.you will find your cake moist not dry.try it.enjoy
The apples will makes it moist.
less calories and fat, and makes a moist and tasty cake!
It's a lower fat oil substitute and it tastes good.
