When making a rum cake, recipes call for dark rum. Can I use a clear, spiced rum?

If I cannot, why? When making a rum cake, recipes call for dark rum. Can I use a clear, spiced rum?
Yes, just expect a slightly different flavor in your finished product. When making a rum cake, recipes call for dark rum. Can I use a clear, spiced rum?
Yes you can. When the recipe calls for dark rum, it's because of the coloring, and rich flavor.

I suggest you use the dark rum, for it's heavy flavor, and not the light rum, because the light has just what it says, lightness, without any real natural flavor.

Generally, light rum is intended to be drunk, and not baked with.
I've done this and it's actually really good. It's a little different, but in my opinion, better than dark rum.
it would be similar

dark rums have a stronger flavor, but spiced would give it it's own flavor
You could, but it won't taste like a normal rum cake.
